Amateur Radio balloon launch for 50th anniversary of Sputnik
On the EU-AMSAT Yahoo Email list Thomas Frey HB9SKA has posted details of a an Amateur Radio balloon transponder launch to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the launch of Sputnik.
Thomas HB9SKA writes:
The Radio Amateurs from the Sternwarte Bochum (observatory of Bochum Germany) will launch a weather balloon with a 2m transmitter.
On 145.200 MHz in FM it would transmit the callsign DA0SPUTNIK and the historic signals from Sputnik.
The power is 1 Watt into a whip (or similar) antenna.
If the balloon rises to an altitude of 25 km it could be heard in the whole of Central Europe.
The launch is on 4. October at 00.00 MESZ or 3. October 22:00 UTC from Bochum, JO31ok. The duration of the mission would be 3 to 24 hours.
